Delhi Assembly Leader of the Opposition Atishi on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to deliver on promises made to women in Delhi, including the Rs 2,500 aid and free LPG cylinders. Speaking to ANI, Atishi labeled the promise of financial assistance as a “Jhumla,” and criticized the BJP for not following through on their commitments.

“The BJP and PM Modi gave several promises to the people of Delhi. The Rs 2500 aid turned out to be a ‘Jhumla.’ Women were supposed to receive free cylinders during Holi, but with only two days left before the festival, they are still waiting. Women across Delhi are protesting with empty cylinders against BJP’s false promises,” Atishi said.

During the Delhi Assembly election, the BJP had pledged to provide monthly financial aid of Rs 2,500 to women under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. The party also promised to offer LPG cylinders at a subsidized rate of Rs 500 to low-income families and one free cylinder each on Holi and Diwali.

On March 8, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the BJP-led government would fulfill all its promises, emphasizing the welfare and security of women. “The only government that approved a 33 percent reservation for women is Narendra Modi’s government. We will work for women’s welfare, security, and deliver everything we promised,” she said during an International Women’s Day event.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gopal Rai also criticized the BJP government, accusing them of engaging in a “blame game” to avoid fulfilling their poll promises. “The Comptroller and Auditor General report is tabled in the Assembly and sent to the PAC for analysis. The BJP doesn’t want to table the CAG report; they just want to avoid delivering on their promises,” Rai added.
